Position Overview

Rupp Pfalzgraf LLC is seeking an experienced, strategic, and highly collaborative Marketing Director to set long-term vision and direction for the firm’s marketing and business development efforts. This is a critical leadership role responsible for aligning the firm’s brand, business development initiatives, and go-to-market strategies with the firm’s long-term growth objectives.

The Marketing Director will work closely with practice group leaders, partners, the Executive Committee, and the Managing Partner to define and guide targeted business development plans that leverage attorney expertise and align with the firm’s key markets. The role also includes oversight and strategic direction for client feedback initiatives, attorney business development training, brand strategy, and the go-to-market launch of innovative AI-driven tools, in-house software, and new practice areas.

This position requires a results-driven leader who thrives in a professional services environment, excels at cross-functional collaboration, and brings a proven track record of building and managing high-performing marketing teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Marketing & Business Development
    • Partner with practice group leaders and individual attorneys to develop and execute customized business development plans aligned with their expertise and the firm’s target markets.
    • Define and evolve the firm’s long-term marketing and business development strategy in alignment with firm leadership and growth objectives.
    • Serve as a strategic advisor to partners and practice leaders on positioning, market opportunities, and long-term client development strategy.
  • Firm Leadership & Collaboration
    • Work closely with the Managing Partner, Executive Committee, and Partners on firm-wide marketing strategy and priorities.
    • Provide regular executive-level reporting, insights, and recommendations to firm leadership on marketing performance, pipeline development, and ROI.
    • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and shared ownership of business development across the firm.
  • Client Feedback & Experience
    • Design, implement, and manage a structured client feedback program in collaboration with firm leadership.
    • Analyze feedback to identify trends, strengths, and opportunities, and translate insights into actionable improvements and growth initiatives.
  • Attorney Business Development Training
    • Create and lead an in-house business development training program tailored to attorneys at different stages of their careers (associates, counsel, partners).
    • Coach attorneys on relationship development, cross-selling, personal branding, and effective use of marketing tools.
    • Develop practical resources, templates, and playbooks to support attorney-led business development.
  • Brand Strategy & Market Positioning
    • Serve as steward of the firm’s brand strategy, ensuring long-term consistency, differentiation, and alignment with firm values and goals.
    • Establish strategic guardrails for messaging, thought leadership, and external communications to strengthen the firm’s market presence.
    • Ensure the firm’s brand evolves in a way that reflects its values, expertise, and innovative approach while supporting future growth.
  • Go-To-Market & Innovation Initiatives
    • Help lead go-to-market strategies for AI-developed tools, internally developed software, and new practice launches.
    • Partner with firm leadership, attorneys, technologists, and external partners to determine market readiness, positioning, and success criteria for new offerings.
    • Support pilot programs, market testing, and strategic oversight of launch campaigns for new services and capabilities.
  • Marketing Operations & Technology
    • Leverage CRM platforms and marketing technology to drive results, improve pipeline visibility, and support data-driven decision-making.
    • Ensure marketing analytics, dashboards, and reporting support executive decision-making and long-term planning.
    • Continuously evaluate and optimize marketing processes, tools, and workflows.
  • Team Leadership & Development
    • Lead and develop a high-performing marketing and business development organization capable of supporting the firm’s long-term growth.
    • Establish clear goals, priorities, and performance metrics for the team.
    • Foster professional development, collaboration, and innovation within the marketing function.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • 15+ years of progressive marketing and business development experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Proven experience working directly with senior leaders, partners, or executives on growth initiatives.
  • Proven ability to scale, and lead marketing organizations through periods of growth and change.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to execute at both a high level and in the details.
  • Experience developing brand strategies and go-to-market campaigns.
  • Comfort leveraging data, analytics, and technology to inform strategic decision-making.

Salary range: $125,000 – $175,000 per year
