I take pride in sizing up a case and digging into its facts and the law to ensure that clients have every conceivable chance of a favorable outcome regardless of the opponent. Litigation may not always be the best option for some clients, in which case I strive to help them avoid it. I am always prepared, though, to move forward with litigation should it ever become necessary. I come up with a strategy to win the whole case and not just the next step in it. I love going to trial and arguing in court and I understand the importance of bringing the same energy to weeding through complex discovery and drafting efficient motions. I honed my craft at Latham & Watkins LLP and Kaplan Hecker & Fink LLP in New York City and look forward to offering those same skillsets to clients of all shapes and sizes at lower rates.
I have represented plaintiffs and defendants in a wide variety of cases, including at trial. I have also represented defendants who are targets of government investigations and conducted internal investigations on behalf of various Boards of Directors. My experience includes securing a $1.04 billion bench trial judgment for UBS in a breach of contract dispute against hedge funds affiliated with Highland Capital Management. I also represented Virgin Media, Inc. in a civil suit filed in New Jersey Superior Court. The trial team obtained summary judgment disposing of $1 billion in claims for lost profits under an indemnity agreement. The remaining equitable claims were settled on favorable terms during trial.
I have also represented Mary Trump in her appeal against Donald Trump, Maryanne Trump Barry, and the estate of Robert S. Trump. I have also represented several professional golfers and agents who were subpoenaed as nonparty witnesses in connection with LIV Golf’s lawsuit against the PGA Tour alleging violations of federal antitrust law and further represented professional golfers in a similar state court action. I have also written amicus briefs filed on behalf of a range of clients, including former White House and Department of Justice officials opposing President Trump’s claims of presidential immunity relating to the events of January 6, 2021 and public interest organizations opposing a state practice of requiring the filing of individual actions to seek the return of illegitimately obtained funds.
I also briefed and argued a successful immigration appeal as a third-year associate before the Third Circuit. A month after my argument, the Court granted my client’s petition for review. In doing so, the Court also identified the lower courts’ actions that violated my client’s due process rights.
My public speaking appearances include guest lecturing at University of Michigan Law School, providing the opening remarks at the 2021 National Asian Pacific American Bar Association Conference in Washington, DC, and moderating and speaking on several panels, including at Duke University Law School, New York University School of Law, and Columbia Law School.
I would be remiss if I did not mention the success of my Batavia High School mock trial team, coached by former Genesee County District Attorney Larry Friedman. High school mock trial is where my love for trials, the application of the rules of evidence, and winning against formidable opponents began.
