A childhood passion for reading and a strong awareness of injustice made the legal profession a natural choice for me. An undergraduate environmental justice class led to a clerkship at the law firm of that same class’s professor just a few years later. I’m convinced, as anthropologist Margaret Mead said, that helping someone else through difficulty is where civilized society begins, and that humans are at our best when serving a greater civic purpose. The privilege of meaningfully contributing to a client’s goal of turning what was once old new again, and the ability to create room for progress by rectifying regulatory and compliance issues are what I find so compelling about environmental and land use law. Good things happen when passion aligns with purpose. Both drive me to protect our clients’ interests and achieve their short-term and long-term goals.
