“People at law” isn’t a tagline we repeat for effect.
It’s the lens we use.
Behind every matter is a person making a decision that carries weight. A business owner managing risk. An executive answering to a board. A family trying to get through something difficult without making it worse.
We don’t treat those decisions like abstract legal issues. We treat them like what they are. Real situations, with real consequences - and often - limited room for error.
That perspective changes how we show up.
We ask better questions before we start giving answers. We look at the full picture, not just the immediate issue. And we build strategies that hold up outside of a conference room, in the day-to-day reality our clients are actually operating in.
Rupp Pfalzgraf was built on the idea that legal work should be done differently.
Not softer. Not performative. Just more thoughtful, more strategic, and more aligned with the people behind the work.
We were founded in 2000 by attorneys who wanted to move beyond the traditional law firm model. Since then, we’ve grown into one of the largest full-service firms in Western New York, with more than 75 attorneys serving clients across New York and beyond.
That growth matters, but it’s not the story.

How we approach the work
Legal problems don’t exist in isolation, and neither do we.
Our attorneys work across practice areas to assess risk, identify opportunities, and move matters forward with intention. Sometimes that means acting quickly to resolve something before it escalates. Sometimes it means slowing down and structuring it correctly from the start.
Either way, we are deliberate about it.
Clients feel that difference quickly. They know we’re going to be responsive. They know we’re going to be direct. And they know we’re not going to overcomplicate something just to make it sound more sophisticated than it is and we won’t simplify something that shouldn’t be.
What they also learn is that we’re thinking beyond the immediate issue. We’re looking at how decisions play out over time, across their business, their organization, or their life.

Beyond the work
We take the work seriously. We care about doing it well. But we also care about the people doing it, and the communities we’re part of.
Our attorneys serve on boards, support nonprofit organizations, and stay involved in the places where we live and work. Over the years we’ve contributed significantly to community organizations and continued to grow a team that values both performance and connection. We regularly volunteer our time to organizations in our community dedicated to giving back.
