Jill L. Yonkers

My practice is built on the belief that effective defense starts long before trial — it begins with a clear-eyed assessment of the facts, an honest conversation with the client about risk, and a strategic plan that drives every decision from the first communication through resolution. I focus on getting to the core of a matter early, identifying the strongest positions, and building toward them efficiently. Whether I'm preparing a summary-judgment motion or advising on litigation avoidance, my goal is to give clients a realistic picture of where they stand and then execute a strategy that protects their interests in the most efficient way possible. I believe strongly in thorough preparation — particularly when it comes to witness development and evidentiary foundations — because matters are often resolved on these key details.

I represent a broad range of clients in civil litigation, with a particular concentration in insurance defense, construction and Labor Law, premises liability, and breach of contract. My clients include insurance carriers, third-party administrators, contractors, property owners, municipalities, school districts, and others. I work regularly with national and regional carriers on matters ranging from slip-and-fall claims to complex multi-party construction disputes and sensitive institutional liability cases, including matters arising under the Child Victims Act and New York Labor Law. 

I prepared a motion challenging overpled allegations under the Child Victims Act, successfully dismissing all of the challenged claims in the first reported decision in New York State.  I have litigated at all court levels in New York, including at the Court of Appeals.  I recently served as an independent investigator for a local school district where I led a comprehensive review of district safety and security protocols. That engagement — which involved analyzing thousands of records, reviewing emergency response procedures, and evaluating incident reporting systems — reinforced my ability to synthesize large volumes of complex information into clear, actionable findings. It also deepened my appreciation for the intersection of institutional operations and legal risk, a perspective that informs how I approach work for multiple clients. More broadly, I take pride in handling cases that require both creative problem-solving and meticulous preparation, whether that means developing a novel evidentiary strategy or navigating the procedural complexities of multi-party litigation.

Outside the office, I spend most of my free time with my two teenage sons, who keep life busy and entertaining. We're a family that loves sports, reading, and travel, and our household is rounded out by two cats and a dog who have strong opinions about all of it.
