Matt Miller Defends East Aurora Spanish Teacher in Discrimination Lawsuit.

Labor and Employment partner attorney, Matt Miller defends an East Aurora Spanish teacher in a discrimination lawsuit. Matt says she, “was repeatedly denied by the district.”

East Aurora Middle School Spanish teacher, Julie Rizzo, loves her job. She’d like to be able to continue teaching, however, Rizzo has a serious immune deficiency disorder she was diagnosed with seven years ago. The disorder is so serious that she has to have infusions every 3 weeks. For Rizzo COVID-19 is a serious concern, her doctors have advised her that if she were to catch COVID-19 she could likely die.

For these reasons Julie Rizzo requested special accommodations to teach remotely. The East Aurora school district repeatedly denied this request. The district stated that they have no need for teachers doing their job remotely. Rizzo was placed on unpaid leave because she cannot teach in person. She is more than willing, and ready to teach if given the accommodations required to keep her healthy.

Attorney Matt Miller is requesting that Julie Rizzo be immediately put back in her paid position with the ability to teach from home.
